Nerd Armada

A Black Friday special! Since I haven’t had time to color new doodles, I’m dragging out some old artwork. The top image is one of the first color tests of Marzipan City we did for the Chowder pilot. (Background line art by Paul Stec and painting by Joe Binggeli.) It’s easy to get caught up in making the backgrounds beautiful pieces of artwork, but this was going to be a busy street with lots of cars going by and Chowder running in the foreground. It’s very pretty but I felt it was too dark and busy for the scene. It had to be simplified as a backdrop. Plus I wanted a happier, more colorful city. We made the coloring looser and let the line art define the details. The second image is the final production art.
